Fair and Stable Rates

In contrast to other insurance carriers, TDIC’s rates are uniquely determined by dental specialty or anesthetic modality, not by the procedure performed. Within each specialty, rates are the same for all dentists. And, TDIC covers all dental specialties, including oral surgeons.

We rate each state independently considering the state’s loss experience, not the individual’s. So, your premium will never increase because of your claims experience. In fact, TDIC has not raised professional liability rates since 1988.

Premium Discounts

You can save even more money off our already competitive rates when you qualify for any of our available discounts:

Multiline Discount
10 percent when you purchase both the Professional & Business Liability and Building & Business Personal Property policies.

Risk Management
5 percent for two years after attending a risk management seminar or completing the self-study course.

New Graduates
45 percent first year
45 percent second year
25 percent third year

You may also qualify for additional discounts. Please contact your local broker for eligibility information.

Policyholder Dividends

Unlike most insurance policies available to dentists, the TDIC professional liability policy is a participating policy. This type of policy enables us to return unused premium dollars in the form of policyholder dividends whenever claims experience is especially favorable. No insurance carrier can guarantee dividends, however, TDIC has paid them every year since 1989—returning more than $52 million.

The Claims-Made Advantage

Thousands of dental professionals choose the TDIC professional liability policy because it is written on a claims-made and reported basis. A claims-made policy ensures that you are adequately insured and carrying appropriate limits at the time at which a claim is made—not limits that were appropriate years earlier when the treatment occurred. With an occurrence policy, coverage is provided for an incident, which occurs during the policy period, without regard to when the claim is made.

Offering coverage on a claims-made and reported basis directly enables us to offer lower premiums, provide free tail coverage with no age requirement and deliver dividends earlier.

One-On-One Support

Obtain free, one-on-one assistance by calling TDIC’s Risk Management Advice Line. With more than 30 years combined experience, our trained analysts address questions and concerns about potential claims stemming from patient or employee situations. Callers receive the necessary education, support and preventative counsel to avoid or minimize a potential claims situation.

All dentists who belong to a sponsoring state dental association can take advantage of this free service—regardless of whether or not they are TDIC policyholders. This is just one more way TDIC supports the entire dental profession.

Transitional Coverage for New Graduates

If you’re a recent graduate and have received your state dental license, you can take advantage of TDIC’s 30-day coverage binder so that you can begin practicing as soon as possible. This special service provides insurance coverage while you complete your formal applications for organized dentistry and TDIC’s Professional & Business Liability policy. Your coverage begins immediately, and the 30-day period is reflected in your policy statement.

Flexible Payment Options

To help you with your financial planning, you can choose from three interest-free payment options: one annual payment, two semi-annual payments, or monthly automatic payment withdrawals.
